The Link continues its 2025 series of public domain movies with a classic comedy directed by Howard Hawks. The film, released in 1940, is known for it’s rapid-fire dialogue and screwball humor. In “His Girl Friday” (1940), fast-talking New York City newspaper editor Walter Burns (Cary Grant) will do anything to keep his star reporter, Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell), from leaving the paper. But Hildy, who is also Walter’s ex-wife, has other plans: She’s ready to settle down in Albany with goofy insurance salesman Bruce Baldwin (Ralph Bellamy), and nothing will convince her to stay—until Burns offers her the scoop of a lifetime. “His Girl Friday” is at once a newsroom drama, a crime story, and a romantic comedy.
