Details:
Hosted by the Twin Cities Metro Growers Network Part farm, part art piece, and wholly community oriented, The Black Radish is an Artist-led Urban Market Garden and CSA in the heart of South Minneapolis. Growing across 15 yards in their Standish neighborhood, farmers Jade Townsend and Carrie Thompson are dedicated to providing affordable, locally grown produce to their neighbors through 50 community-supported agriculture (CSA) shares, donations to SANNEH Foundation’s food distribution site, and sales to a couple of local businesses. We’ll enjoy a tour of The Black Radish and learn how this unique farm has built relationships between neighbors, implemented sustainable and organic practices across over a dozen sites, and impacted food security on a hyperlocal level. Come and connect with fellow urban growers, and hear how Jade and Carrie have navigated land access and starting a farm business! Registration: It is free to attend. Advance registration required. Limited to 40 participants. Note: We will gather in Jade and Carrie’s residential yard, and the tour will include walking a few blocks to see their various growing sites. Please contact Lia Spaniolo with accessibility questions and requests at spaniolo@umn. edu. SFA staff and volunteers occasionally take photos during our workshops, cafe chats and field days for promotional purposes and to use as documentation of events to share with our funders. If you do not wish to be photographed, please let our event host know — we’ll make every effort to make sure you are not photographed. The Twin Cities Metro Growers Network is a collaboration between SFA and the University of Minnesota Extension in Hennepin County. This event is funded in part through the Minnesota Department of Agriculture AGRI Urban Agriculture grant.
