Join us for an engaging program titled "Talk & Tour: Moon Bases," where we delve into the ambitious Cold War-era project known as "Project Horizon." In 1959, the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force had plans to establish a military base on the Moon, aiming to create a permanent American presence on the lunar surface. Although the project was ultimately scrapped, its vision has influenced future space exploration. During this session, the Museum Educator will share the fascinating story behind this extraordinary mission, discussing its objectives, the reasons for its abandonment, and posing the intriguing question—could lunar bases become a reality in our lifetime? The presentation starts at 2:00 PM in the STEM Inspiration Center, followed by a guided tour at 3:00 PM. No RSVP is required; general admission must be paid at the entrance.
