Join the Sharon Historical Society, in conjunction with the Sharon Beautification Commission, for our Downtown Sharon History Walks during WaterFire Sharon. We will focus on the South Irvine Avenue gateway! Step back in time and explore the rich history of downtown Sharon, Pennsylvania, on a captivating walking tour. Our guided journey takes you through the western edge of the downtown area, where historic buildings, landmarks, and stories from the past come to life. From the bustling days of industrial growth to the architectural gems that still stand today, discover the pivotal moments that shaped Sharon’s development. Learn about the vibrant communities that once thrived here, the influential figures who left their mark, and the fascinating tales that have been passed down through generations. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, our History Walks offer a unique and engaging way to experience the charm and heritage of Sharon. Stops on this History Walk will include Sacred Heart and its school buildings, First Church of Christ Scientist (now Walnut Lodge Movement Center), the row of early 20th century homes designed by prolific architect, E. E. Clepper, the former Samuel Kimberly mansion (later St. Scholastica Academy, now Vermiere Apartments), the location of the first house in Sharon (the log cabin of William Budd), Union Brewing Company and Sharon Coal & Ice, St. John’s Episcopal Church, and more! The History Walks will be approximately 1.5-2 hours over a 1-mile route of flat terrain, sometimes uneven. Rare photographs and interesting stories will be printed in our FREE collectible booklet! TIME CHANGE: Walks will begin at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm/Noon, and 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 26, 2025 during WaterFire Sharon. These are FREE and OPEN TO ALL!! Donations are appreciated!! The History Walks will begin at the ACTS Performing Arts Center parking lot (former Sacred Heart Church) at 40 South Irvine Avenue, Sharon, PA 16146. Parking may be found in several lots nearby at ACTS Performing Arts Center (former Sacred Heart Church), First Baptist Church, St. John’s Episcopal Church, PA Careerlink, on-street parking, and the massive parking lot at Sharon City Centre (plaza where Reyers was located). All parking is FREE.
