Alex Baird is a Seattle-native jazz vocalist and pianist now based in Long Beach, California. Known for her expressive storytelling and genre-blending style, Alex grew up immersed in the rich Seattle music scene—and carries on a family legacy as the granddaughter of Peggi Griffith, a beloved vocalist who performed throughout the Pacific Northwest in the 1950s and '60s with artists like Overton Berry. Singing and playing piano since the age of 7, Alex has become a dynamic presence in the next generation of jazz artists. Her sophomore album, Healing (2025), is a moving collection of original songs and reimagined arrangements that explore emotional resilience and connection. The album follows her debut release, Lemon Tree (2022), which has garnered over 2 million Spotify streams. Alex is the 2025 DownBeat Graduate Vocal Jazz Soloist Award winner and currently sings with the award-winning vocal jazz ensemble Pacific Standard Time at California State University Long Beach. Career highlights include her guest artist performance at the Kobe Jazz Festival in Japan after winning the Seattle-Kobe Sister City Association Jazz Competition at Jazz Alley. Still, one of her most cherished traditions is returning home each winter to sing holiday music at the West Seattle Thriftway, where her love of performing first took root.
