This mighty 1997 disaster film was directed, written, co-produced and co-edited by James Cameron. Incorporating both historical and fictionalized (a touching love story) aspects, it is based on accounts of the sinking of the world’s most lauded luxury ships in 1912. The ship that had everything…but, for all the money spent on its planning and construction, was doomed from the beginning. The scope and dynamics of the CGI special effects was the culmination of years of perfecting this kind of film-making. A huge money maker and critics’ favorite, the film took home an unprecedented 11 Oscars® in 1998.
