7-20-2025 On his 17th album, “Picasso’s Villa,” singer-songwriter Anders Osborne reflects on life in America from 2018 - 2021, exploring themes of fear, joy, ego detachment and inner peace through friendship, family and meditation. The track “Bewildered” looks at four decades of American culture and politics, capturing a sense of spiritual confusion and the human longing for bliss. “Dark Decatur Love” reminisces about Osborne’s early years in New Orleans’ French Quarter, and “Le Grand Zombie” pays tribute to his late friend Dr. John. The title track critiques the commodification of musicians. Recorded in New Orleans with top-tier musicians like Waddy Wachtel and Chad Cromwell, the album blends Osborne’s gritty, rock-driven live energy with his contemplative singer-songwriter roots. Born in Sweden in 1966, Osborne moved to New Orleans at 19 and became a cornerstone of its music scene. Drawing on blues, classical, jazz and folk influences, his distinct sound features open D tuning. He has released numerous solo albums, written for artists like Keb’ Mo’ and Tim McGraw, and performed with legends including Dr. John, Bonnie Raitt and Phil Lesh. Osborne has been recognized as "Entertainer of the Year" by Gambit Weekly and "Best Guitarist" by OffBeat. He’s appeared at Jazz Fest for 35 years, acted in HBO’s "Treme," taught at Tulane, and collaborates on music outreach programs and songwriting retreats.
