This is the Official page of The Buttonwood Tree Performing Arts Center in Middletown, CT. (TBT) While “Rooted in the Arts,” The Buttonwood Tree’s programming transcends the arts from the obvious into the subtle areas of people’s lives, encouraging and empowering patrons to develop skills and be more of Who They Really Are. Here we enrich lives with the camaraderie of good people and the experiences of great music and the arts. We are a meeting place where folks of different walks of life casually gather to share and grow in many aspects of life. We’re continuing in our founder’s footsteps to develop TBT as a place where people get connected to others, nurturing that sense of community. We meet to share our talents, ideas, gratitude and our humanity. We stimulate each other to be civically active, we educate through workshops and classes, and we challenge preconceived notions by creatively combining genres of music and art for unique presentations. In short, we invite and encourage people to be expressive – to let their creative genius blossom – to become all that they can be. When individuals grow in character and personal achievements, so will the community that embraces them. The Buttonwood Tree has become a mainstay on Middletown’s Main Street, and we welcome ALL to our community. The Buttonwood Tree Performing Arts Center, Inc. Is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit arts organization. From its opening in 1989, The Buttonwood Tree has been a grassroots, avant garde center for all ages, all comers, artists and audiences. Recognized nationally and internationally as a music venue (see Kunle Mwanga), it has also offered programs led by outstanding artists in contemporary theater, literature, art, poetry and dance—from belly to hip hop—as well as opening its doors to community activists, educational and religious groups to citizens in general to utilize our space for their own purposes. We have had a wide range of experiences and activities within our space which all add to the positive and loving energy of the environment within our walls, a stark difference to the climate of the street outside our doors. Some activities held here besides the frequent birthday party and business gathering are music recitals, baby/bridal showers, a Christmas Eve wedding engagement and a wedding ceremony! Love is in the air at TBT! Now more than ever we intend to explore this dimension of our activities, and we invite you to move forward with us.
