The Greater Huntington Symphonic and Jazz Bands will perform their annual free Christmas concert on Thursday, December 18 at 6:30 p.m. at New Baptist Church, 610 28th St., in Huntington. The jazz band, under the direction of Mr. Tom Chaffin, will open with such favorites as Silent Night; Nutcracker Swing; All I Want for Christmas is You; Hot Chocolate (from The Polar Express); We Three Kings and Home for the Holidays. The symphonic band, under the direction of Mr. Matt Chaffins, will perform A Canadian Brass Christmas, Mele Kalikimaka, In the Bleak Midwinter, A New Orleans Nutcracker Suite, Celtic Carol, The Thirteen Days of Christmas, Gesu Bambino, Bell Carol a la Big Band, and Sleigh Ride.
Both groups typically perform several concerts per year throughout the tri-state including a spring concert, the annual Symphony Sunday fund raiser for the WV Symphony Orchestra in Charleston, WV; the annual July Patriotic concert in Ironton; a fall pops concert and a Christmas concert.
