Juneteenth commemorates the formal abolition of slavery in the United States when federal troops entered Galveston, Texas after the end of the Civil War in 1865 and enforced the Emancipation Proclamation. In honor of Juneteenth and its celebration of freedom, enjoy FREE museum admission with live jazz performances, cultural presentations and poetry readings.
