Duluth-based Eira and Willowgreen will perform “Winter Solstice Fire: Music for the Winter Seasons” with a special guest appearance by harpist, Mary Hagen for a memorial/tribute to Willowgreen’s longtime harpist Georganne Hunter.
This special holiday concert will be held at 2 pm Sunday, Dec. 21 on the beautiful Sacred Heart altar stage.
Willowgreen has been at the forefront of Celtic music and a Northland favorite for 40 years. Their Holiday concerts are a “must-see” in Duluth and especially at Sacred Heart Music Center.
Eira (pronounced “era” in North America) features Willowgreen members Jim Ofsthun, Sue Spencer, Liesel Wilson and Bridget Spencer. The group performs music from Scotland, Ireland, Newfoundland, Canada, Wales, China, Scandinavia and the United States. Instrumentation includes fiddle, erhu, guitars, bodhrán, octave mandolin, octave fiddle, button accordion, and whistles.
E-tickets will be available for $15 (plus $2.85 in fees) at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31 HERE. Paper tickets will be available for $15 at Globe News in Superior (cash only) and Zenith Bookstore in West Duluth (plus $1 handling fee). Tickets will be available at the door while supply lasts for $20. Doors at 1 pm. Music at 2 pm.
