Join us for two exciting events on January 24, featuring unique outdoor skills workshops at popular Michigan state parks.
At **Mitchell State Park**, participate in the **Hard Water School (Ice Fishing)** with the Outdoor Skills Academy from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This comprehensive ice fishing experience includes an orientation session (Jan. 13 via Zoom), a Q&A (Jan. 20 via Zoom), and hands-on practice on Lake Mitchell. Expert instructors from Clam Outdoors, Vexilar, and more will guide you through ice fishing techniques for panfish, walleye, and pike. This family-friendly event requires a Michigan fishing license and costs $25, which includes bait and a take-home gift. A valid Recreation Passport is needed for park entry, and participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment.
Simultaneously, join the **Snowshoe Building Workshop** at **Hartwick Pines State Park** on January 24-25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. You’ll receive step-by-step instruction to create modified bear paw-style wooden snowshoes, complete with bindings. A break for lunch will be provided, and participants are welcome to bring their own or purchase food locally. The cost for this workshop is $195, and cancellations must occur by January 5. A Recreation Passport is also required for entry into Hartwick Pines.
Both events offer valuable hands-on learning experiences in Michigan's beautiful winter landscapes. For registration and more details, visit Michigan.gov/DNRLicenses.
