The Bird and The Book’s monthly “Songwriter Series” continues from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2, with host Randy Riggs and four performing writers with a wide range of songs and stories. Performers include Sarrenna, David Haley Lauver, Mike Jones and Nick Swatson. There is no cover charge, and the kitchen and bar will be open! Sarrenna is a Knoxville indie folk-rocker who won the 2025 Tennessee Songwriters Week statewide competition at Nashville’s iconic Bluebird Café. Her powerful original song “Audacity” also took first place in earlier rounds at Knoxville’s Laurel Theater and The Bijou Theatre. David Haley Lauver is a co-writer of the Grammy-nominated “Appalachian Blue,” recorded by Kristy Cox. Among his other recorded co-writes are “Jezebel” by Ali Shumate and current hit “The News That Never Changes” by The King James Boys, all songs that reached #1 on the Bluegrass radio charts. He's a Blount County native who’s been selected to the East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame and serves as education and public relations director of the Knoxville Songwriters Association. Knoxville's Mike Jones has been singing and writing music for more than 20 and has been involved in musical theater, chorus, barbershop groups, and singer/songwriter performances. Nick Swatson is a student at Maryville’s Rock and Metal Academy. His diverse collection of original songs ranges from delicate acoustic fingerstyle arrangements with soft vocals and subtle harmonies to energetic rock anthems with catchy guitar riffs and solos. His debut album “What If?” was released in 2022.
