Its officially Godzilla Day in Bloomington on June 27th! The proclamation (see below) has been signed. And kicking off GODZILLA WEEKEND at the BCT with a pre-film introduction by Godzilla Historian and Scholar Beth Bredlau ! Presented by the IU East Asian Studies Center, Japan-America Society of Indiana, and Pillar Arts The 1954 film Godzilla (a.k.a. Gojira) is the roaring granddaddy of all monster movies. Its also a remarkably humane and melancholy drama, made in Japan at a time when the country was reeling from nuclear attack and H-bomb testing in the Pacific. Its rampaging radioactive beast, the poignant embodiment of an entire populations fears, became a beloved international icon of destruction, spawning almost thirty sequels. This is the first, original Japanese version of the Godzilla film. Toho Co., Ltd produced, Ishiro Honda directed.
