GERMAN INFLUENCES On Early Christmas Trees of West Virginia
From Saturday, December 13th thru Saturday, December 20th at the Blennerhassett Museum of Regional History from 11:00am to 5:00pm.
Note – The Museum is closed on Mondays.
This new exhibit of early Christmas trees allows visitors to view the influence of the German culture on the Christmas traditions in early America and West Virginia. Learn what city had the first documented Christmas tree in West Virginia – some 13 years before a Christmas tree first appeared in Williamsburg, VA. What folktale describes perhaps the first Christmas tree ceremony in West Virginia? What did the Christmas trees throughout the 1800s look like and how were they decorated.
SHORT TALK: Sunday, December 14th at 3:00pm at the Museum. Explore this topic in depth with Dick & Martha Hartley, Blennerhassett Volunteer Educators. This early Christmas Tree Exhibit and its Short Talk on Sunday, December 14th are part of the regular Museum admission cost which is $4 for adults and $2 for children of ages 3 – 12.
