Join the Berks History Center as we welcome historian Michael Harris on Saturday, October 11th at 10AM for an immersive journey into one of the pivotal battles of the American Revolution, the Battle of Germantown. This historic clash unfolded on October 4, 1777, in what was then a small village on the outskirts of Philadelphia, now a bustling neighborhood. Michael will share the strategic and historical significance of George Washington’s bold attempt to recapture Philadelphia from British control. Discover the broader implications of the Battle of Germantown, a testament to the resilience and tenacity of the Continental Army. Despite the eventual reversal and British victory, the battle showcased the continental soldiers as formidable opponents, challenging British Regulars in a daring early morning attack. Learn about the strategic decisions and challenges faced by the American high command during the battle and how dense fog and communication difficulties played crucial roles in the unfolding of events. Light refreshments will be available at 9:30 AM, and the lecture will begin promptly at 10AM. Tickets cost $5 for BHC Members and $10 for Non-Members, which includes museum admission.
